People often tend to use the term talent acquisition and recruitment interchangeably. It is essential to understand that there is a thin line of difference between talent acquisition and recruitment. While recruitment majorly focuses on filling the job vacancies, talent acquisition aims to strategically plan for hiring new talent in the longer run. 

 

Let’s begin by understanding the basic difference through the definition of these two terms :talc

Recruitment and talent acquisition has a thin line of difference which is often misunderstood. To clear the air let’s begin with the definition of recruitment management

Recruitment 

Recruitment is a process that includes sourcing of candidates, screening and selection of the eligible candidates for the available positions. Recruiters post job descriptions, schedule interviews for various positions in the organization. Technological advancements have a great role to play in recruitment. Online recruitment software automates major functions decreasing the workload of the human resource management team. It helps in screening the resumes in accordance with the required eligibility criteria and sends bulk email notifying the status of the application. 

Talent acquisition

Talent acquisition has a wider pool of responsibilities in comparison to recruitment. It is a cyclic approach that includes building relationships, anticipation of future needs of new employees and creating a sustainable source of candidates. The aim of talent acquisition is to streamline a nurturing and development process for skilled hands. It aims to equippe the organization with skilled hands with a long term view in mind. 

The definition highlights the with a wider eye the difference between the two. Let’s dig a little deeper and discuss in detail how talent acquisition differs from recruitment.

Strategic planning

It requires loads of planning to establish a well equipped talent acquisition team. Talent acquisition keeps  a keen eye into understanding the nature of the business and strategically planning for the workforce required for the organization. It is a long term approach with a wider lens. It incorporates local and global markets for acquisition of labor.  

Recruitment is a process that is done in accordance with the rulebook. Recruitment is done based on the job description and can be an automated process. It stimulates applicants for vacant positions. It is a practical approach aiming to fill in the recent requirement unlike talent acquisition. 

Bifurcation of workforce

Talent acquisition has its base on understanding the business. As there are different segments in an organization. It not only requires understanding the inner workings of the organization along with the skills, experiences and competencies of each designated position in the organization. On the other hand, the recruitment management process remains the same for the whole team. The procedure of recruitment has a framed approach which is followed by the recruitment team to fulfill the immediate requirements. 

Branding of the employer

Branding is an imperative aspect of the talent acquisition process. Branding has a major role to play in attracting consumers and talent as well. Talent acquisition’s sole responsibility is to maintain a clear and attractive impression of the organization. Fostering a positive impression of the organization ensures a positive image and maintains a good reputation based on the quality of the goods and services.A strong talent acquisition team attracts good candidates and imparts the vision of how the organization functions. Good branding assists in employees staying longer in the same organization. It can be done in different ways. Whereas recruitment management teams can skip this step altogether. They do not have a role to play in branding the employer.

Sourcing talent and  management 

Skilled employees come from different backgrounds. Talent acquisition assists in identifying different sources to acquire new candidates for varied skills. once they have highlighted trusted sources for eligible candidates or a trusted connection with the employees they have to maintain a healthy relationship. Such an initiative is executed with an understanding that the skilled employees might not be able to fill in the position right away but somewhere down the line. 

Recruitment management is responsible for taking care of the recent requirement in the organization. It posts job descriptions on sourcing platforms and hires candidates for immediate requirements.

Analytics 

Strategy planned by the talent acquisition team is incomplete without appropriate tracking with the assistance of analysis. A collective generation of data provided and analysing pertinent information assists in hiring better candidates and making better decisions for the organization. Talent acquisition takes time in analysing the eligibility of the candidates and strategies for acquiring a longer investment for hiring in the longer run. The analytics team acquires the required data using the key metrics. 

At the end, it can be concluded that recruitment is a quick solution for the workforce which can be automated by online recruitment software. On the other hand talent acquisition has a wider perspective that involves thoughtful leadership.
