The India Skills Report 2023, now in its 10th edition, continues to examine the strategic overview of India’s Skills and Talent Economy by 2030. It highlights the shifting employability trends and industry forecasts, which were analyzed from outcomes of the WNET exam, which was taken by 3.75 lakh individuals nationally this year.  The study also analyzed pattern of recruiting early career professionals across 150 corporates in various job roles across 15+ industries.

Some of the key messages that the report highlighted:

  1. Indians have become more employable with the overall employability improving to 50.3% compared to previous year, and higher than pre covid levels.

  1. Interestingly, domain-wise BCom and MBA topped the charts with the most employable talent, followed by BTech and BPharma.

  1. Automotive Engineering and Internet Business were the top industries in terms of hiring during 2023, while IT sector and BFSI were the leaders with internet business in 2022.

  1. Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi had the highest hiring activity, while Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Delhi had the maximum supply of employable talent.

  1. Notably, if we compare employability between the two genders, Women had a higher employability ratio of 52.8% compared to 47.2% among the men folks. And this trend is not only for this year but it has been there for years. However, the sad part is that despite the higher employability of women, there share in workforce remains lower. This highlights a need for more women friendly policies at workplaces.

  1. Top skills required 2030 by the employment market includes Digital Literacy, Data Literacy, Critical Thinking, Emotional Intelligence. This list highlights the rise of digital and creativity to lead the skills arena in the coming years.
  2. Key sectors that will see rise in hiring activity includes Retail, Manufacturing, Construction, Healthcare and Insurance, Renewable Energy and IT Sector/ Electronics.
