Talent development: The win-win formula in the digital era
Talent development: The win-win formula in the digital era

The IT services industry is undergoing a transformation from traditional services such as infrastructure and application maintenance to digital solutions in disruptive technologies such as customer experience, data sciences, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA). The emergence of cloud along with methodologies like Agile and DevOps has brought in new service delivery models. IT service companies are discovering that their talent pools are not aligned with this rapidly changing demand. If they want to maximize the new opportunities available, it is critical that they reskill their workforce with new-age mindsets and skillsets.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) estimates that 54% of all employees in the Information Technology space will require significant reskilling by 2022.[i] “Timing,” says the WEF, “is critical.” Reskilling must start now.

For companies today, the way forward is clear: Prioritizing internal upskilling and reskilling through a comprehensive talent development program. After studying customer, talent, and business needs, identify the organization's next-generation skills that need to be nurtured. A learning platform that allows for skilling to be done at speed, scale, and precision is being developed with the best of internally created and externally curated content. Enterprise partnerships with digital learning and IT product companies are being put in place to provide best-in-class learning opportunities for employees.

For the organization, linking learning to talent mobility and management is critical from a customer, employee, and operations lens. Employees are keen to acquire new skills as it provides career growth opportunities but once reskilled, they also want to move into new roles. Such movements also help the business in meeting demands in new areas where external talent availability is limited. When employees see the value proposition in reskilling and the immediate benefits of their newly acquired skills, it has a cascading effect.

Our experience shows that our work from home processes motivate employees to further invest in new skills. Digital learning methodologies help simplify anytime-anywhere self-paced learning. Learning journeys are being mapped and connecting learners to peers and experts for social learning creates a vibrant learning culture.

We know that employees in the organization are keen to take up new challenges and desire career growth. Now we also have the tools – and a strategic talent development plan – that guarantee a return on skilling investments for the organization, our customers, and, above all, our employees. A winning approach for all in the rapidly changing digital era.
