In my last blog post, “Is the AI revolution only about job losses or are we missing the fine print here?” – I discussed about how the adoption of AI is not only about job losses, but also about creation of new job roles. To meet the skills requirements of these emerging job roles reskilling and upskilling the workforce is essential. This leads to the very logical next question – what are these skills?

The Rise of Fusion Skills

Interestingly, AI-driven roles demand a powerful fusion of technical and human skills—a trend echoed in the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025.

With the rise of AI, it’s no surprise that 87% of the employers’ rate AI and big data increasing in importance. In addition, tech literacy and human skills such as Analytical thinking, Creative Thinking, Resilience, are becoming a must for the new AI driven world.

Also, the human qualities of leadership, curiosity, systems thinking, talent management and self-awareness are increasing in importance amidst the accelerating pace of technology, these human capabilities are required to set the direction. The future will be focused on technology and sustainability with networks, cybersecurity & environment stewardship becoming a key focus. However, most companies are yet to embrace these paths these paths and thus would need the right leaders who will set the direction for the organisations - preparing them a disrupted tomorrow.

With machines taking over the operational tasks, human skills like empathy, customer service orientation and resource management will gain more importance.

AI Skilling – From an Option to Business Imperative

This shift isn’t just theoretical—major industry players are already rethinking their strategies to stay ahead. A recent report by Microsoft “Work Trend Index 2025” highlights AI skilling and using digital labour will be the top workforce strategies. The report also highlights how organisations are and will continue to transform in the coming years with human intervention continuing to play an important role, albeit differently. Below the report summarises the different phases an organisation will encounter over time as they adopt AI across functions.

The Future Belongs to Those Who Can Lead With AI

According to LinkedIn, AI literacy is now the most in-demand skill of 2025 with rising demand for human strengths like conflict mitigation, adaptability, process automation, and innovative thinking. This highlights that future belongs to those who can pair deep AI capabilities with the skills machines can’t replicate.

In short, the future won't belong only to those who understand AI - but to those who know how to lead with it —strategically, ethically, and creatively.

Final Thoughts

As AI reshapes industries, the question is no longer if you need to reskill-but how. It's not just about understanding algorithms. It's about blending tech fluency with human capabilities like empathy, resilience and creative problem solving.

The future of work isn’t just about machines replacing humans. It’s about empowering humans to thrive alongside machines. The winners in this new era will be those who pair deep AI capabilities with the irreplaceable strengths of the human mind and heart.

As Amy Webb, Futurist and CEO, Future Today Strategy Group have highlighted, “If you have a people problem, you will have an AI problem. As multi-agent systems redefine the workplace, the challenge will be to integrate and manage them securely and effectively. Companies that already know how to enable their human workforce will succeed—breaking down silos, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the entire organization works toward common goals.”
