What Is Blockchain?

Blockchain is the underlying technology behind bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. Blockchain is basically a cluster of computers where data is exchanged directly without any central server. The computers communicate with each other in a single network, where any kind of transaction done by one computer gets recorded in The Ledger, which is common for all the computers. The transactions are stored in a chronological order and cannot be deleted or altered. The whole architecture or the design of the technology is such that it is almost tamper proof. It's a peer-to-peer network and extremely secure.

The best thing about blockchain is that it cannot be hacked or changed, and this digital ledger is used to store transaction records in a verifiable and distinguishable manner. Besides providing a building foundation for immutable ledgers, blockchain has several use cases across industries.

Examples of blockchain technology include NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and metaverse etc. Tokenization and NFTs have become critical components of digital transformation projects in many sectors.

CBDC (Central bank Digital Currency) is another great opportunity where more than 110 countries are collaborating. Many start-ups and multi-national companies have started working on these new trends.

“A blockchain is an immutable time-stamped series record of data that is distributed and managed by cluster of computers.”

Blockchain Frameworks:

Let’s look at a few popular and widely used blockchain development frameworks:

 Ethereum

et

  • Ethereum is a decentralized, open-source blockchain with smart contract functionality.
  • It is a community-run technology powering cryptocurrency, ether (ETH) and thousands of decentralized applications.

Quorum

qu

  • Quorum is an Ethereum-based distributed ledger protocol for Financial Services Industry with a permissioned implementation of Ethereum.
  • Quorum supports transaction and contract privacy.

 Hyperledger

hy

  • Hyperledger is an open-source collaborative effort created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies.
  • It is a global collaboration, hosted by The Linux Foundation, including leaders in finance, banking, IoT, supply chain, manufacturing, and technology.

C-rda

cr

  • Corda is actively developed by R3 and over 200 technology and industry partners.
  • It is a distributed ledger platform for permissioned networks, inspired by blockchain technology, specially designed for financial services use cases.

Career Paths in Blockchain
Blockchain is still in an embryonic stage and is set to evolve in the coming years. Since the technology is still undiscovered by many, there is lesser competition in the field in terms of job opportunities. Did you know that there is an opportunity for every role in Blockchain just as we have traditional software/IT careers?

Here is a list of few job roles in Blockchain:

  • Blockchain Developer
  • Blockchain Engineer
  • Blockchain Project Manager
  • Smart Contract Developer
  • Blockchain Quality Engineer
  • Blockchain security Engineer
  • Blockchain Legal Consultant
  • Blockchain Solutions Architect
  • Blockchain Business consultant

Other career options in Blockchain are accountants, public relations, crypto brokers, analysts, and crypto marketers. Right now, could be the best time to dive into the depths of blockchain technology and learn as much as possible before competition intensifies.

Anyone whether they are a developer, architect, project manager, sales lead, security consultant, or Infrastructure engineer can learn blockchain and start a career in Blockchain.

How to start a career in blockchain?

To start your career in the blockchain industry, here are some steps that will give you a kickstart:

  • Learn Blockchain Basics
  • Take part in online training sessions (Live)
  • Be a part of Blockchain Conferences and events
  • Build skills in cryptography
  • Develop an understanding of the required programming language
  • Know about distributed computing and application
  • Stay connected with the Blockchain community
  • Get Blockchain training & certification

You can learn blockchain online from the Indian Blockchain Institute.  People having Blockchain Certifications or those who have pursued the best Blockchain courses are preferred by top companies.

In the next five years blockchain is expected to become a mainstream technology, just like Cloud. There are tremendous opportunities in Blockchain technology in digital transformation and building new business models with tokens, decentralization, and a trusted ecosystem. I always believe that Blockchain could be useful wherever trust, transparency, and efficiency are required in any business transactions. It could be anything from education records, supply chain, trade finance, and Payments, to climate change, e-governance, agriculture etc.
